THE WEARING OF MENS WEDDING RINGS TODAY

Although the wearing of mens wedding rings is becoming increasing common today that is a relatively recent change and continues to be not entirely accepted by many men.

It has been traditional for woman to wear wedding rings almost since history began and you can find records of an exchange of rings at marriages way back to the times of ancient Egypt. Nevertheless, it had been rare for a guy to wear a wedding ring following the marriage ceremony until following the Second World War.

Many people have suggested that was for purely economic reasons and that it is only the relative affluence that lots of societies now enjoy that has made this practice possible. There’s undoubtedly some validity in this argument and it may indeed be a significant reason behind men not previously wearing wedding rings, but it is obviously not the only reason.

Wearing a marriage ring mean stating publicly that you will be married and, while this has rarely been seen as a problem for women, a lot of men are less than pleased to advertise the fact that they are married. This is undoubtedly changing today, but nonetheless remains a strong influence for most men, while some simply wear their ring when it suits them and take it off when it generally does not.

Being an interesting aside, men in Greece and Italy are often given “puzzle” marriage rings by their brides. These rings contain a series of interlocking metal rings which have to be arranged in a collection order to form an individual ring, meaning that the ring can’t be quickly and easily removed or replaced.

For rings for men is seen being an item of jewelry and wearing a wedding ring is viewed in much the same way as they view wearing a pair of earrings. For most men wearing jewelry is merely something that men do not do and the wedding ring is no exception. Again that is something that is becoming less of a problem over time and, as the wearing of earrings may still be some way off for most men, it is viewed as acceptable for a guy to wear a ring, bracelet or perhaps a neck chain nowadays.

Oftentimes, while a man may not have any particular problem with the thought of wearing a marriage ring, if he’s got not worn a ring before he might be concerned about whether or not he will feel safe with a ring and also have questions about whether or not it’ll feel heavy or will rub. This of course can be an easy matter to overcome and all he has to do is purchase a cheap ring from his local jewelry store or market and wear if for a while to see.
Needless to say one genuine problem for most men is their occupation which may exclude them from wearing a ring because of the dangers posed by operating machinery or simply for reasons of hygiene. This is course is not something that it confined to the wearing of mens marriage rings and effects women equally.
